Gold for Gloucester

Gloucester Tourist Information Centre has won gold in the visitor information provider category at the South West Tourism Awards.

Gloucester was joint winner with Bodmin Tourist Information Centre for the award, which was held at Exeter Cathedral on 4th February.

The award ceremony was organised by Services for Tourism, an organisation that works with tourism boards and companies.

Bournemouth and Launceston were runners up, whilst Dartmouth and Discover Purbeck picked up bronze awards.

Gloucester Tourist Information Centre has also been shortlisted as a finalist for the Awards for Excellence 2016, held by VisitEngland – the national tourist board. It is the only tourist information centre from the south west to be shortlisted in the nationals.

It is up for the award of ‘Visitor Information Provider of the Year’.

The award ceremony will be held on Tuesday 8th March at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.

The sixteen awards pay tribute to businesses and individuals who champion best practice and exhibit excellence in customer service, and Gloucester is a finalist for best visitor information provider.

Cllr Lise Noakes, cabinet member for culture and leisure said: “It is fantastic that not only have we won the gold for the South West Tourism Awards, but that we have also been shortlisted as a finalist for the Awards for Excellence, held by VisitEngland.

“I am very proud of everyone in the team who has worked so hard to provide such a fantastic service. Gloucester is a great place to visit, and we have a fantastic tourism service that helps highlight that.”
