Gloucester City Council has installed a new interpretation board at Eastgate Chamber which tells the story of the history of it.
The city council has installed a number of new interpretation boards around the city centre which tell the story of the historic development of the city for both visitors and residents to enjoy.
Following on from the success of the Kimbrose and Spa boards installed last year a new board has been installed at Eastgate Chamber to help to bring the scheduled monument’s history to life.
The board has been paid for as part of the city centre investment fund, and was designed and installed at the request of the Civic Trust.
Ian McKay, from the Civic Trust said: “Tourists and residents will be able to learn more about Gloucester from the Roman, medieval and civil war periods, all part of our city’s fascinating history.
“We are indebted to Phil Moss of the Civic Trust and John Rhodes, former curator of the City Museum, for their expertise and knowledge in designing this board.”
Cllr Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council said: “The city has a number of interpretation boards similar to this one at various locations around the city centre which are very popular with both residents and visitors.
“This new board provides a glimpse into the Roman history of the east gate and the people who lived and worked here.
“I would like to thank the Civic Trust for their assistance in this project.”
The board is part of the improvements to public realm and awareness of heritage within the city for visitors and residents.
